Rutgers-Newark Rallies to Defeat Bearcats (16-13)

The Scarlet Raiders of Rutgers-Newark recorded a dramatic rally with 11 runs in the eighth inning for a high-scoring 16-13 victory against the Baruch College Bearcats in a non-conference game played on Tuesday afternoon in Newark, New Jersey.

The visiting Bearcats (5-11) started off on a high note and led 11-4 after three innings in a game played at the minor league stadium of the Newark Bears.

They began by scoring five runs in the second inning behind three hits and one fielding error by Rutgers-Newark.
John Yuksekol and Thomas Daly each smacked a single for two RBI to help the team jump out to the early lead.

In the third inning, they scored six more runs as they benefited from four fielding errors by Rutgers-Newark. Daly, the CUNYAC Player of the Week, had an RBI single and
Alvin Mata walked with the bases loaded to score Justin Torres to lead 11-4.

The Bearcats two more in the seventh inning on another Daly single for two RBI for a 13-5 advantage.

Rutgers-Newark (8-7) exploded for 11 runs in the eighth inning with four hits, four walks and two fielding errors from the Bearcats to go from trailing 13-5 to taking a dramatic lead of 16-13, which stood as the eventual final score.

Overall, Baruch scored 13 runs on 12 hits, while Rutgers-Newark finished with 16 runs on 11 total hits.

Daly had a big afternoon by batting 4-for-5 with five RBI.
Anthony Melendez batted 3-for-4, while Yuksekol scored three runs. 

UPCOMING SCHEDULING NOTE: Due to scheduling regulations, the single CUNYAC contest against Yeshiva, which was postponed by cold weather on March 3, has been rescheduled to Thursday, March 31, at 7:30 pm, at Taft H.S. in the Bronx. Yeshiva is an associate member of CUNYAC in the sport of baseball only. The game against NYU Poly, which was originally scheduled for Thursday, March 31, has been postponed. No rescheduled date is available.
