MOLTEN Final Four Result: Springfield 3, Baruch 1; Bearcats to Play in 3rd Place Match

The #6-ranked men’s volleyball team lost in four tough sets to #1-ranked Springfield College in a Molten Final Four match on Friday night at Nazareth College in Rochester, New York.

Springfield won the opening two sets with exact scores of 25-20 (.333) and 25-20 (.423), but the Bearcats rallied to win the third set with a 25-22 score. They led 12-8 in the fourth set and seem to have the momentum on their side, but Springfield advanced to their second straight Division III National Championship by collecting 17 of the final 22 points to record the 25-17 victory.

The Pride of Springfield totaled 53 kills for a .333 hitting percentage, while Baruch finished with 41 kills with a .220 hitting percentage. The Pride hit for a .542 percentage in the fourth set.

Baruch was led this evening in the stats column by their All-American combination of
Eryk Kowalski (16 kills, .306, six digs, three blocks) and Pablo Oliveira (12 kills, eight digs, one block).

Setter
Jesus Echevarria dished out 33 assists and freshman Steven Coniglio finished with five kills to go along with a solid .429 hitting percentage. Vincent Cruz had a busy evening defensively with five blocks.

Alberto Bravo led three Springfield players in double-digits with 17 kills and nine digs. Mike Becker dished out 44 assists and Mike Pelletier totaled 13 kills (.348) and seven digs.

The Baruch Bearcats will play tomorrow, Saturday, April 16, at 5:00 pm, in the Third Place match against Carthage College of Wisconsin.
