Baseball Team Sweeps Doubleheader From Lehman (8-3, 3-2)

The baseball team swept a CUNYAC doubleheader from Lehman College on Saturday afternoon in the Bronx.

The visiting Bearcats won the first game with a score of 8-3 and won the second in a rain-shortened five innings with the score of 3-2.

With the results, the Bearcats improve to 11-14 overall and 6-2 in CUNYAC, while Lehman fall to 5-18 overall and 3-7 in CUNYAC.

Jesus Izarra dominated in the opener with a complete game that featured 14 strikeouts, no walks, and three earned runs.

John Yuksekol and Jonathan Ovalles each smacked solo home runs, while Alvin Mata and Ben Pradubsri each batted 2-for-3 with a run scored.

The Bearcats (one error) totaled eight runs on nine hits with five runners left on base, while Lehman (four errors) scored three runs on eight hits with five runners left on base.

In the second game,
Kellin Bliss earned the victory by pitching 4.1 innings with three strikeouts, three hits, and two earned runs. Ryan McGuire pitched the final two outs of the fifth inning and struck out both batters to get the eventual credit for the save.

Marcos Mejia totaled three RBI in the victory, while Yuksekol and Pradubsri each hit a double.

The baseball team was scheduled to host Lehman College in a single game on Sunday at 12:00 pm, but due to wet field issues, the game is postponed.

The Bearcats will return to action on Thursday, April 21, with a 4:00 pm non-conference game at the State University of New York at Old Westbury. This game against Old Westbury was officially added today to the schedule.
