BOX SCORE

The men’s soccer team defeated the Lightning of Lehman College, 2-1, in the opening CUNYAC league contest of the season for both teams on Wednesday night at the Met Oval in Maspeth, New York.

Last season, Lehman upset the Bearcats in the CUNYAC semifinals.  Despite a 42-13 shot advantage in regulation and overtime, the Bearcats could not score enough goals and were eliminated early from the tournament on penalty kicks.

This year, Lehman outshot the Bearcats, 22-15, but this time the Bearcats scored two solid goals to hold on to the conference victory.

They scored their first goal at 17:55 with Kyle Keague (Garden City, NY) sending a cross into the box that found Vincent Cruz (Torrington, Connecticut) for the header and first goal of the contest.

They increased the advantage to 2-0 at 25:10 as Alvaro Velasquez (New Rochelle, NY) scored from 30 yards on a free kick.

Lehman (2-2, 0-1 CUNYAC) cut the Baruch (3-3, 1-0 CUNYAC) advantage to 2-1 at 69:55 with Carlos Ribeiro (Bronx, NY) knocking in the goal on a corner kick opportunity.

The Bearcats will return to action on Saturday, September 17, with a non-conference road contest at the Violets of New York University. Kick off at Gaelic Park on the campus of Manhattan College is scheduled for 11:00 am.  (LIVE STATS AVAILABLE)
