The women’s volleyball team finished with a 2-2 record on Saturday at the North Country Classic hosted jointly by St. Lawrence & Clarkson Universities in Canton, New York.

The Bearcats began the morning by sweeping the host St. Lawrence with competitive scores of 26-24, 26-24, 25-19 to defeat their opponent from the Liberty League Conference.

Jessica Wu (Cerritos, California) and Lauren Hayden (Parker, Colorado) led the way with 10 kills each in the hard fought victory that also included four block assists by Hayden.

Melinda Santiago led the offensive effort with 30 assists, while the team all contributed defensively behind the efforts of Megan Moody (Anderson, Texas) with 14 digs & 10 assists, Carissa Oliveira (Vista, California) with 10 digs, and Rebecca Peralta (Bronx, NY) with nine digs.

In the second match against the Rochester Institute of Technology (R.I.T.) from the Liberty League Conference, the Bearcats lost in three sets with scores of 25-12, 25-18, 25-19.

Wu and Hayden led the attack again in the tough loss with six kills each. Moody, Hayden and Peralta all finished with six digs apiece. Sara Stephani (East Patchogue, NY) contributed a team-high six assisted blocks as Baruch finished the match with nine total team blocks.

The women’s volleyball team will return to action on the evening of Tuesday, September 6, with a 7:00 pm non-conference match at Western Connecticut State University from the Little East Conference. First serve in Danbury, Connecticut is scheduled for 7:00 pm.
