#12 Bearcats Begin CUNYAC Schedule By Sweeping Brooklyn & John Jay

The #12-ranked men’s volleyball team won both of their CUNYAC matches on Saturday at the first Multi-Match of the season hosted by Hunter College.

In their morning match, the Bearcats swept the Bulldogs of Brooklyn College with scores of 25-16, 25-11, 25-22.

The Bearcats (5-2, 2-0 CUNYAC) pounded out a .441 hitting percentage behind the attacking efforts of
Steven Coniglio (10 kills, .714), Vincent Cruz (8 kills, .636) and Aviv Elias (5 kills, .714).

Nick Smith dished out 29 assists and Taylor Higgs totaled a team-high seven digs to help the team begin their CUNYAC schedule on a winning note.

In the afternoon match, the Bearcats swept the first year program of John Jay College of Criminal Justice with scores of 25-10, 25-5, 25-14. The team played well again with a .384 hitting percentage.

Jack McKee led the attack with nine kills by hitting .533. Christopher Kaimis (.384) and Cruz (.583, five blocks) recorded seven kills each, while Coniglio finished with six kills.

Sam Park dished out a career-high 23 assists and Higgs totaled six digs.

The men’s volleyball team will continue their CUNYAC schedule on Wednesday, February 8, with a 7:00 pm match at Lehman College in the Bronx. Please note the revised playing date for this match.
