Bearcats Sweep Fredonia (3-2, 6-2)

The Baruch baseball team swept a non-conference doubleheader from the State University of New York at Fredonia on Monday in Fort Myers, Florida.

The Bearcats won with scores of 3-2 and 6-2 to defeat their opponent from the SUNYAC Conference.

Eric Peralta recorded the victory by going 5.2 innings, allowing only two earned runs with four strikeouts, in earning the pitching win.

Fredonia was able to get on the scoreboard first with a run in their first at-bat, but the Bearcats scored the next three runs to lead 3-1 after five innings.

They scored their first in the second inning as
Thommy DeJesus singled and later came around to score on a fielding error. They added the second run in the fourth inning as Yancy Taveras smacked his second home run of the season. The third run took place in the fifth inning as Ricky Gerbino scored on an RBI ground out by Thomas Daly.

Fredonia was able to cut the score to 3-2, as they added a run in their bottom half of the sixth inning, but the Bearcats shut down Fredonia the rest of the way as
Alex Fabian pitched 1.1 innings of relief with three strikeouts in notching the impressive save.

In the second game, freshman
Paul Perez pitched a complete game by going the full seven innings with two earned runs allowed, seven strikeouts and two walks.

The Bearcats jumped out to a 5-0 lead after two innings. They scored the first run in the second inning on a two out rally.
Nicholas Carmine was hit by a pitch and quickly stole second base. Michael Daly, the younger brother of Thomas Daly, stepped up to the plate and hit an RBI single to score Carmine.

They broke open the game with four runs in the third inning. Thomas Daly smacked a two RBI single to score
Steve Hession and John Yuksekol. Eric Ulino hit a ground out RBI to third base to score Daly and Carmine hit a sacrifice fly to score Yancy Taveras to round out the four runs in the productive inning.

Fredonia battled back with two runs in the fourth inning to cut the score to 5-2, but the Bearcats added their sixth and final run in the fifth inning as Thommy DeJesus hit sacrifice fly to score Thomas Daly.

The game ended with a 6-2 score to help the Bearcats clinch a sweep of an opponent from the SUNYAC.

The baseball team will return to action on Wednesday morning, at 9:00 am, with a single non-conference game in Fort Myers against Skidmore College from the upstate New York Liberty League Conference.
