#14 Men's Volleyball Fall to #12 Hunter in Four Sets, Sweep John Jay

The #14-ranked men’s volleyball team played two CUNYAC home matches on Thursday night in the ARC Arena.

The Bearcats began the evening with a showdown against #12-ranked and fierce rival Hunter College. It is believed that this match, for the first time in CUNYAC history for any sport, involved two CUNYAC teams playing each other as nationally-ranked opponents.

Hunter totaled 48 kills hitting .302 to record the four set victory with scores of 25-17, 12-25, 25-21, 25-14. The Bearcats totaled 47 kills, but only hit .221 to suffer the disappointing home defeat.


Jack McKee led the Bearcats again with 18 kills hitting .350. He also added six digs and two blocks. Steven Coniglio finished with nine kills hitting .500, while Danny Olson dished out 38 assists and totaled six digs.

also had a solid match against Hunter with seven kills and nine digs.

Hunter had four players with nine or more kills. Chris Newcomb led the visiting Hawks with 13 kills (.417) and eight digs.

In the second match, the Bearcats swept John Jay College of Criminal Justice with convincing scores of 25-11, 25-11, 25-9.

The Bearcats played their entire roster with four players recording at least five kills.
Aviv Elias and Christopher Kaimis (.857) led the team with seven kills each. Sam Park dished out 27 assists and totaled six digs. Dan Alon contributed five kills.

Nicholas Todaro led visiting John Jay with four kills and three digs.

The men’s volleyball team will quickly return to action with two more matches on Friday, March 23, in the first day of the Springfield College Invitational in Springfield, Massachusetts. The Bearcats have matches scheduled against #15-ranked Kean University at 3:00 pm and Wentworth at 7:00 pm.
