Rutgers-Newark Knock Off Bearcats (7-4)

The baseball team lost a 7-4 non-conference contest to the Scarlet Raiders of Rutgers-Newark on a chilly Tuesday afternoon in Newark, New Jersey.

The Bearcats were trailing (4-3) after five innings of play, but allowed three runs on three wild pitches in the sixth inning to enable the Scarlet Raiders to pull away for the home victory.

Steve Hession led the Bearcats at the plate by batting 2-for-4 with a pair of singles. Thommy DeJesus scored two runs, and Alvin Mata, the CUNYAC and ECAC Metro Player of the Week, finished with a run scored.

Chris Ballester led Rutgers-Newark from the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) with a 3-for-3 performance that featured a home run, triple, single and three total RBI.

The baseball team will return to action on Thursday, March 29, with a 4:00 pm non-conference contest at St. Joseph’s College of Patchogue from the Skyline Conference.
