Baseball Splits Doubleheader vs SUNY-Plattsburgh (Win 10-8, Lose 8-2)

The baseball team went on to split a non-conference doubleheader against the State University of New York at Plattsburgh on Friday afternoon in Fort Myers, Florida.

The Bearcats won 10-8 in the first game, but fell 8-2 in the second against an opponent from the SUNYAC Conference.

In the opening game, Plattsburgh took a 2-0 lead in their first at-bat, but the Bearcats scored five times in the second inning to lead 5-2.

Ricky Gerbino cleared the bases with a three RBI double, while Thomas Daly smacked a two RBI single to score Steve Hession and Gerbino for the five run second inning.

Plattsburgh demonstrated lots of offense early and scored six times in their next at-bat to lead 8-5 after two innings. However, the Baruch pitching settled down and kept them scoreless the rest of the game.

Baruch added two runs in the fifth inning to cut the score to 8-7. Daly hit an RBI double to score
Alex Lopez and Thommy DeJesus hit into a ground out to score Daly from third base.

They finally tied the game in their next at-bat of the sixth inning as Steve Hession smacked an RBI single to score Ricky Gerbino. They eventually took the lead as a busy Thomas Daly hit another RBI single to score Alvin Mata for a 9-8 score.

They added their 10th and final run in the seventh inning as
Harold Fernandez hit an RBI single to score Aldo Altamirano.

In the second game, the Bearcats scored twice in the third inning as
Alvin Mata hit an RBI triple to score Steve Hession, while Thomas Daly hit a sacrifice fly RBI to later bring Mata home from third base.

They were unable to score the rest of the game as Plattsburgh scored twice in the fifth and blew the game wide open in the sixth with four runs to split the doubleheader in Florida.

The Baruch baseball team will return to action on Saturday morning with a 9:00 am single game in Fort Myers against Muhlenberg College from the Centennial Conference.
