St. Joseph's (Brooklyn) Defeat Bearcats, 6-5, in Final At-Bat

The Baruch baseball team lost a 6-5 contest to St. Joseph’s College of Brooklyn in a non-conference encounter played on Thursday afternoon at MCU Park in Brooklyn, New York.

St. Joseph’s scored the winning run in the bottom of the ninth inning to walk off with the victory. They raise their record to 10-13 overall, while the Bearcats drop to 12-11.

The Bears of St. Joseph’s are coached by Baruch alum and 2007 Athletic Hall of Famer Scott Losche. A three-year team captain, Scott batted .395 with over 100 RBI in a career that included winning the team’s first-ever CUNYAC Championship in 2001 with a victory over Staten Island at Yankee Stadium.

The visiting Bearcats were trailing 4-1 in the fourth inning, but
Thommy DeJesus tied it up with a three run homer to left field. They took a 5-4 lead in the fifth inning after John Yuksekol hit an RBI single to score Steve Hession.

St. Joseph’s of Brooklyn, who currently compete in Division III as an independent, tied the game with a run in the sixth inning and won it with their final at-bat on an RBI single to left field.

The baseball team will return to action during Spring Break next Tuesday, April 10, with a 3:30 pm non-conference contest at the State University of New York at Purchase.
