The women's volleyball team split their two matches on Saturday at the SUNY-Cortland Invitational in Cortland, New York.
The Bearcats swept Pitt-Bradford in a morning match with scores of 27-25, 25-19, 25-23, but lost a heart-breaker during the afternoon against Lebanon Valley in five sets (23-25, 23-25, 25-16, 25-22, 14-16). With the results, the Bearcats own a 1-3 record on the young season schedule.
The Bearcats will return for their home opener on Tuesday, September 4, at 7:00 pm, against Western Connecticut University from the Little East Conference. Admission to all home matches are free and fans that can't attend the match can follow the action online via live stats.
Against Pitt-Bradford, McKenzie Davidson led the attack with 12 kills hitting .308. Rebecca Peralta contributed nine kills and six service aces, while Melinda Santiago recorded 30 assists and 10 digs. Nicole Lockwood finished with 13 digs to help defeat an opponent from the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference.
Against Lebanon Valley from the Commonwealth Conference, Lauren Hayden led the way with 17 kills hitting .484. Peralta finished with 15 kills hitting .308. Santiago dished out 40 assists and Phillips rounded out a solid day with a team-high 21 digs.
