Women's Volleyball Defeats Rival Hunter to Stretch Season Win Streak to 9

The women’s volleyball team swept their rival Hunter College Hawks in a CUNYAC contest played on Thursday evening at the Hunter Sportsplex in New York City.

The visiting Bearcats (10-4, 5-0 CUNYAC) stretched their overall season win streak to nine by recording a 25-16, 25-22, 25-11 victory. The team also increases their CUNYAC (regular & postseason) win streak to 15 in a row.


Jessica Wu led the attack with 14 kills hitting .500 to go along with nine digs. Rebecca Peralta, who is currently eighth overall in Div. III statistics with 1.18 aces per set, continued her solid play with 11 kills and nine digs.

Melinda Santiago, the CUNYAC Championship MVP against Hunter during the 2011 Final, dished out 23 assists and collected a team-leading 12 digs on the defensive end. Lauren Hayden (7 kills, 3 blocks) also contributed to the big win on the road.

Taylor Kordich (.313) and Lucia Stosic led the Hawks (7-5, 4-1 CUNYAC) with six kills each.

The women’s volleyball team will resume action on Wednesday, September 26, with a 7:00 pm non-conference home match against the State University of New York at New Paltz from the SUNY Athletic Conference.
