The #13-ranked men's volleyball team began the season on a positive note with a pair of opening day victories at the “Live Free or Die Invitational” on Saturday afternoon in Nashua, New Hampshire.

The visiting Bearcats started their schedule off against a tough opponent in #7-ranked Rivier and recorded an impressive win with scores of 25-19, 25-19, 22-25, 25-15.

Martin Joksimovik led the attack with 12 kills hitting .478. Steven Coniglio (.474) and Jack McKee had 11 kills each to help defeat Rivier on their home court.

Scott Standring dished out 42 assists and Taylor Higgs totaled 10 digs. Gabe Rivera contributed six kills and nine digs.

Overall, the Bearcats totaled 50 kills hitting .250, while Rivier struggled with 40 kills hitting .111.

In the second match against Endicott, the Bearcats recorded another four set victory with scores of 25-15, 25-20, 18-25, 26-24 to walk off 2-0 in the first day of the weekend invitational.

Joksimovik was busy again with 11 kills hitting .474. Standring finished with 34 assists and five kills hitting .714.


Higgs totaled seven digs and Brian Coniglio dished out seven assists in his first day of intercollegiate competition.

The “Live Free or Die Invitational” is hosted jointly by Rivier and Daniel Webster Colleges, which are both located in the city of Nashua.

Tomorrow, Sunday, January 27, the Bearcats will travel cross town to play at Daniel Webster College. They begin at 11:00 am against Daniel Webster, followed by a 1:00 pm match against #9-ranked M.I.T.
