Women's Volleyball Defeats Gwynedd-Mercy, Fall to Rowan in Tri-Match; Sr. Night on Wednesday

The women's volleyball team went 1-1 in a Tri-Match hosted by Rowan University on Saturday afternoon in Glassboro, New Jersey.

The visiting Bearcats started by sweeping Gywnedd-Mercy College from the Colonial States Athletic Conference with scores 25-13, 25-12, 25-14.


Sydney Parks led the way in the quick victory with eight kills and two blocks. Rebecca Peralta had six kills and digs each, while Eleni Efstathiadis recorded a career-high five kills. Crystle Dela Cruz totaled 29 assists and five digs.

The Bearcats totaled 33 kills compared to 11 by their opponent from Philadelphia.

In the second match against Rowan University (19-8) from the New Jersey Athletic Conference, the Bearcats lost in four sets with scores of 19-25, 9-25, 29-27, 22-25.

They struggled hitting only .125, while their opponent was better at .224.

Peralta had a solid match with a double-double of 16 kills and 10 digs. Parks had 13 kills hitting a match-high .423 to go along with one block. Dela Cruz totaled 40 assists and
Amy Sung collected 17 digs in the tough defeat.

The Bearcats will return to action on Wednesday, September 23, with a 7:00 pm home match against the Stevens Institute of Technology from the Empire 8 Conference.

Prior to the match, the team will honor special senior, two-time CUNYAC champion, and three-time conference player of the week
Rebecca Peralta.
