First Time Ever! Women's Basketball Ranked #24 in USA Today Sports D3 Top 25 Coaches' Poll

For the first time in team history, the women’s basketball team is ranked in one of the two prominent national polls that cover NCAA Division III women’s basketball.

The Bearcats are in a three-way tie for 24th place with Howard Payne University of Texas and Maryville College of Tennessee in the USA Today Sports Division III Top 25 Coaches' Poll released today.

The accomplishment continues to highlight a spectacular season for the Bearcats, who as of this afternoon own a 22-2 overall record and 14-1 mark in the CUNY Athletic Conference (CUNYAC).

The Bearcats play later this afternoon with a 5:30 pm CUNYAC home contest on Senior Night against Medgar Evers. The team can clinch the CUNYAC regular season (first place) championship and #1 seed in the upcoming CUNYAC Tournament with a victory.

The players, including the veteran coaching staff, has worked hard in trying to attain national success and being ranked is the culmination of lots of work.

“We are very excited to hear this news, especially on Senior Day,” said Head Coach Machli Joseph. “We obviously have bigger goals this season, but getting this recognition tells us the hard work is starting to pay off.”

The Bearcats received votes, but not enough in the other highly-respected D3Hoops.com Top 25 Poll.

The women’s basketball team joins men’s volleyball in being two current varsity teams at Baruch College currently nationally-ranked in their sport.

This is not only another Baruch first, but it is believed to also be a first-time accomplishment for a CUNYAC senior college school with two teams ranked.
