Win Streak Reaches 12 for #8 Bearcats, Defeat Lancaster Bible, #9 Stevenson in Maryland

The #8-ranked men’s volleyball team stretched their winning streak to 12 by winning a pair of matches on Wednesday at the Stevenson University Tri-Match in Owings Mills, Maryland.

The Bearcats (24-4) started by defeating Lancaster Bible with scores of 25-16, 24-26, 25-23, 25-14. The entire roster saw action with seven different players tallying at least four kills.


Brian Monaghan led the way with a career-high nine kills hitting .438 with four blocks.

Gabe Rivera totaled eight kills, eight digs and two blocks. Scott Standring dished out 42 assist and collected six digs for the team’s 11th straight win.

In the second match, between a pair of nationally-ranked Top 10 teams with Baruch at #8 and Stevenson at #9, the Bearcats won with scores of 26-24, 25-21, 21-25, 25-21.

The Bearcats seemed to be in control up two sets, but the Mustangs hit .382 to win the third. They carried the momentum into the fourth and led 13-11, but the Bearcats responded with seven of the next eight points to jump ahead 18-14.

They took the fourth set to increase their winning streak to 12, which is the second highest streak in team history.


Jack McKee and Martin Joksimovik (.353) had 16 kills each in the important victory. Steven Coniglio, who is currently third in Division III in hitting percentage at .454, totaled 10 kills.

Standring tied a career-high with 50 assists and 12 digs for the double-double.
Taylor Higgs collected a season-high 20 digs on the defensive end.

The Bearcats will return home to compete in the CUNYAC Multi-Match on Saturday, March 30 hosted by The City College of New York (CCNY). The Bearcats play Lehman at 9:00 am, followed by rival Hunter at 11:00 am.
