Bearcats Fall to #2 Springfield, Defeat Mount Ida in Springfield Invitational

The #10-ranked men’s volleyball team split their two matches on Saturday at the Springfield College Invitational in Springfield, Massachusetts.

The Bearcats started by losing in three (25-10, 25-17, 25-15) to #2-ranked and defending national champion Springfield College, but bounced back to defeat Mount Ida to raise their current season record to 13-4.

Springfield (17-3), which competes independently in volleyball, hit a season-high .531 with 41 total kills compared to 27 kills and a .041 hitting percentage by the visiting Bearcats.


Martin Joksimovik led the Bearcats with six kills hitting. 500. Scott Standring dished out 17 assists and Jack McKee totaled seven digs.

In the second match, the Bearcats recorded the sweep against Mount Ida with 25-12, 25-20, 25-14 scores.


Brady Ambro led the way with a season-best 11 kills hitting .688 to go along with three aces.

Brian Coniglio dished out 20 assists and Brian Monaghan totaled four blocks and two aces against the non-conference opponent from the Greater New England Athletic Conference (GNAC).

The Bearcats will return to action with a pair of matches on Thursday at CCNY. The first match at 6:00 pm is the regularly scheduled match, while the second match at 8:00 pm is a make up after the February 9 snowstorm postponed the CUNYAC multi-match.
