The Baruch College Bearcats defeated the Bloodhounds of John Jay College in three sets (25-18, 25-18, 25-11) in a CUNYAC Championship Tournament quarterfinal round contest played on Tuesday evening in the ARC Arena.

For the first time since 2008, Baruch College will host the CUNYAC Volleyball Finals in the ARC Arena. Tickets are free, but all fans must register in advance for tickets at www.CUNYAthletics.com/tickets. The winner of Friday's championship will also earn CUNYAC's coveted berth to the NCAA Tournament next week.

The Bearcats and Bloodhounds played a competitive match, which featured several long rallies, but in the end the Bearcats did more to advance in the tournament.

The Bloodhounds started strong in the third set and took a 10-6 lead that forced a timeout, but the Bearcats battled back hard with nine straight points to take a commanding 15-10 advantage. That was enough for the home playoff victory.

They totaled 35 kills compared to 14 by the visiting Bloodhounds.

"John Jay is a much improved team," said Head Coach Carrie Thomas. "We came out with a tournament attitude and really turned it up a notch to earn the victory."

Symone Green powered the Bearcats with 10 kills and two blocks. McKenzie Davidson (eight kills, .364, 10 digs) and Akilah Meulens (seven kills) also contributed to the win, while Crystle Dela Cruz finished with a near double-double of 32 kills and nine digs.

The Bloodhounds were led by Rachel Eng with five kills and 13 digs. Perla Pozo totaled a team-high 15 digs as their team finished the season with a 10-14 record.
