#13 Men's Volleyball Wins Twice at CUNYAC Multi-Match

The men's volleyball team won their two games on Saturday at the CUNYAC Multi-Match hosted by John Jay College of Criminal Justice in uptown New York City.

In the opener against Brooklyn College, the Bearcats found themselves in a dog fight against the Bulldogs coached by former Baruch men's volleyball assistant coach Michael Salak.

The Bearcats started strong and won the first two sets with scores of 25-21 and 25-22, but the Bulldogs came back winning 25-21 and 25-20 to force a fifth set.

The Bearcats used their experience and powered their way to the overall win by taking the fifth, 15-7, to avert the upset.


Chris Kaimis led the Bearcats with 15 kills hitting .429. Jack McKee (five blocks), the reigning CUNYAC and ECAC Player of the Week, had 14 kills and Yanni Malo (five blocks) contributed 11 kills (.381) for the tough victory.

Scott Standring dished out a season-high 51 assists, while Steven Coniglio had nine kills and his brother Brian finished with 12 digs.

In the second match, the Bearcats earned a sweep against John Jay with scores of 25-17, 25-17, 25-16.

McKee totaled 16 kills hitting .500 to along with eight digs.
Brendan Murphy had an all-around match with seven kills and nine digs.

Malo had seven kills, hitting .455, and Standring dished out 31 assists for a total today of 82.  

The men's volleyball team will return home for a pair of matches on Thursday, March 13. They will start with a 6:00 pm conference match against CCNY, followed by an 8:00 pm non-conference match against No. 4 ranked Springfield College.
