Women's Volleyball Falls in First Day of DeSales Invitational

The women's volleyball team began their season on Friday by competing at the DeSales Invitational in Center Valley, Pennsylvania.

The team opened play against Rutgers-Camden from the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) and lost in five tough sets (25-13, 21-25, 25-17, 23-25, 13-15).

They started by jumping out to a 2-1 set lead, but Rutgers stormed back with wins in the fourth and fifth sets, each by two points, to clinch the comeback.

The Bearcats were on fire in the opening set hitting .370, but could not maintain that solid hitting the rest of the match.

Sydney Parks led the way with 17 kills hitting 483. McKenzie Davidson (9 kills, 19 digs), Symone Green (9 kills, 2 blocks), and Michelle Stommes (8 kills, 16 digs) led a balanced attack, while Crystle Dela Cruz had a double-double with 37 assists and 15 digs. Amy Sung totaled 26 digs.

In the team's second match of the evening, they lost in three (25-15, 25-13, 25-13) to the University of Mary Washington from the Capitol Athletic Conference (CAC).

Davidson (3 kills, 10 digs), Dela Cruz (8 assists) and Sung (10 digs) had the better numbers.

The Bearcats will continue play in the invitational on Saturday with a 12:00 pm match against Albright College, followed by a 2:00 pm match against weekend host DeSales University. Please note the match against DeSales will feature live stats and video.
