Box Score

The baseball team lost a high-scoring 11-8 contest to the United States Merchant Marine Academy (Kings Point) on Tuesday afternoon at MCU Park in Coney Island.

The visitors from Long Island (5-3) started quickly by building a 5-0 lead after three innings, but the Bearcats (3-8) battled back with three runs in the fifth on RBI singles by
Matthew Ballone, Jasdeep Buttar, and Angel Tejeda to cut the score to 5-3.

Kings Point added three more runs in their next at-bat for an 8-3 lead, but the Bearcats again scored three runs in the seventh inning via a three-run homer to centerfield by Tejeda to bring the score closer to 8-6.

The Bearcats could not contain Kings Point and they added three insurance runs in the ninth inning to lead 11-6.

The Bearcats did not go quietly in their final at-bat as
John Paul Cattaro smacked a two-run single to get as close as 11-8. It stood as the final score on a windy afternoon near the beach and amusement park of Coney Island.

Tejeda finished batting 4-for-5, with four RBI and two runs scored in the disappointing loss.

The team is scheduled to return to action on Friday, March 20, with a 4:00 pm single contest at the Stevens Institute of Technology in Hoboken, New Jersey.
