Men's Volleyball Wins 7th Straight CUNYAC Championship, Return to NCAA

The men's volleyball team won their seventh straight CUNYAC Championship Friday evening by defeating the Hawks of Hunter College in four sets.

The Bearcats won with scores of 25-15, 25-15, 14-25, 25-21 to also return to the NCAA for the fourth straight year. The Hawks kept things interesting by winning the third set and jumped out to a 10-6 lead in the fourth, but the Bearcats regained their momentum to capture the title.

Nick Smith (five blocks) and Chris Kaimis (three blocks, eight digs) each had 14 kills in the attack. For his efforts, Smith was named the CUNYAC Championship Tournament MVP.

Scott Standring had 38 assists to help record the win on their rival's home court.

Gary Anderson led the Hawks with 29 assists and 10 digs.

The Bearcats advanced to tonight's final after sweeping Lehman in the 6pm semifinal with scores of 25-8, 25-17, 25-16. Smith was top scorer again with 10 kills and three blocks.

According to NCAA.com, the NCAA Division III selection show for the tournament will be announced Monday, April 13 at 10:00am via NCAA.com.
