The men's volleyball team defeated the Lasers of Lasell College in five sets in a NCAA first round match on Saturday night in the ARC Arena.

The Bearcats, who were the visiting team on the scoreboard, posted scores of 25-23, 23-25, 25-20, 21-25, 15-11 to walk off with the hard-fought postseason victory.

They advance to the NCAA championship rounds on Friday, April 24, at the Stevens Institute of Technology in Hoboken, New Jersey. The match against top-seed Stevens is scheduled for 12:30pm.


Nick Smith had one of his finest matches in a Bearcat uniform with 21 kills, hitting .368, with 11 digs and six blocks to help the team to their 25th win.

Scott Standring dished out 51 assists, Chris Kaimis had 14 kills, and Brady Ambro contributed 11 kills in the home win.

Dan Raffol led the visitors with 16 kills, 10 digs and one ace. Jeffrey Vautrin started off strong to finish with 14 kills, six digs and three blocks. Andrew Glenn dished out 40 assists and added three kills.

The Bearcats finished hitting .294, which included .571 in the fifth-and-deciding set. Lasell hit .191, but struggled in the third (.077) and fourth (.171) sets to finish their season with a 24-9 record.
