Women's Swimming 3-0 in CUNYAC, Defeat John Jay

The women's swimming team won a 55-36 road meet against the Bloodhounds of John Jay College of Criminal Justice on Wednesday night in New York City.

The visting Bearcats placed a first place finisher in eight different events for the conference win.

With the result, the visiting Bearcats improve to 4-3 overall and 3-0 in the CUNYAC, as they enter the Final Exam and Holiday Break. They will next return to action on Friday, January 6, with a 6 p.m. CUNYAC showdown at home against rival Hunter College.

HIGHLIGHTS

*Asimina Hamakiotes took first in the 1,000 (12:26.80) and 500 freestyle (6:02.46) long distance events.

*Yee Chung Phang won the 200 free (2:16.41) and later the 100 free (1:03.53) events.

*Daniela Giraldo, who along with Andrew Lubrino was named this week as the CollegeSwimming.com CUNYAC Swimmers of the Week, kept up her success by placing first in both the 50 free (27.93) and 100 backstroke (1:12.70) events.

*Wendy Ambrosio outswam her opponents in the back-to-back 200 I.M. (2:34.72) and 100 butterfly (1:10.52) events.
