Baruch Volleyball Battles Hard in Competitive Losses to #3 Carthage, #6 Stevens

The men's volleyball team played two Top 10 opponents from the latest American Volleyball Coaches Association (A.V.C.A.) Division III Poll on Saturday in the ARC Arena.

The Bearcats were competitive in both matches and started with a tough five-set loss to the No. 6 ranked Ducks from the Stevens Institute of Technology.

The teams split the first four sets (19-25, 25-23, 14-25, 25-18), but the Ducks in the fifth set broke open a tie (9-9) by notching six of the last eight points for the narrow victory.

Brady Ambro was on fire with a career-high 23 kills, 14 digs and three blocks. Stephen Roach recorded 16 kills and Samuel Rabidoux had 11.

Scott Standring also had a big match with a career-high 61 assists to go along with eight digs.

The Bearcats totaled more kills with 66 (.165), but the visiting Ducks were more efficient with 53 kills hitting .233.

Gabe Shankweiler led the Ducks with 12 kills.

In the second match, the Bearcats battled No. 3-ranked Carthage of Wisconsin hard for an early 1-1 set tie, but Carthage exploded in the third hitting .684 to pull out a 25-14 set win. They finished the win and their undefeated road trip to the New York City area with a 25-18 win in the fourth set.

Ambro led the Bearcats again with 14 kills, while
Braden Carter finished with nine kills hitting .538.

Standring was impressive again with 35 assists and
Man Wai Choi had 10 digs in the match.

Griffin Shields led visiting Carthage with 15 kills (.333).

The Bearcats will continue their arduous non-conference schedule on Friday, March 4, with a 6 p.m. home match against No. 1 ranked Springfield College.
