Men's Soccer Defeats Medgar Evers in CUNYAC Opener

The men's soccer team scored five of their six goals in the second half to record a 6-0 CUNYAC shutout against the Cougars of Medgar Evers College on Saturday afternoon at Aviator Field in Brooklyn, New York. 

The visiting Bearcats scored in the first half on a penalty kick by Macdara Heanue in the 30th minute.

They broke open the contest within a span of 13 minutes early in the second half with goals in the 51st (Alexey Arefev), 56th (Bakary Kida ), and 64th (Sebastian Villada ) minutes. They added two more quickly back-to-back in the 82nd (Cormac Foley) and 83rd (Frank Iacovano) minutes.

Overall, they totaled 32 shots (21 in second half) compared to six by the Cougars.

Victor Torres (two saves) and Ante Lonic (one save) combined for the shutout. Five different players scored with Iacavano, Arefev, and Villada accouting for a goal and assist each.

The team will continue their busy weekend with a non-conference match on Sunday at Sarah Lawrence College. Kick off at Tibbetts Brook Park Field #3 in Yonkers, New York is scheduled for 12 p.m.
