The softball team won the first game of their CUNYAC doubleheader against Lehman 2-1, but fell 7-4Â in five innings (darkness) to their rivals from the Bronx in the second game at Randall's Island.
Cassandra Lagana did it all for the Bearcats in the opening game. The junior put the team in the lead when she scored on a wild pitch in the first inning. Lagana would go on to win the game with a walk-off single in the bottom of the seventh, driving in Amba Jagnarine.
Lagana's heroics weren't just at the plate. She also pitched a complete game, striking out nine batters while limiting Lehman to four hits and an unearned run.
In the second game, the Bearcats fell behind 6-0, before rallying in the fourth inning to cut the score to 6-4.
Kaitlyn Vichas got the Bearcats on the board with an RBI single, which was followed by a two-RBI double by Gabrielle Huezo. However, the comeback fell short, and the Bearcats split their second CUNYAC doubleheader in a row.
The doubleheader on Thursday, April 19 at Rutgers-Newark has been postponed.
The team will next play on Friday, April 20 at 3:30 p.m., when they travel to take on Sarah Lawrence in a newly rescheduled non-conference doubleheader in the Bronxville, New York. The two teams were originally scheduled to play on March 22 but it was postponed by bad weather.Â
