Game Recap: Softball |

Bearcats Fall at Rutgers-Newark

The softball team lost 9-5 in a tightly contested opening game and 17-2 in five in the second in a non-conference doubleheader at Rutgers-Newark on Friday in Newark, New Jersey.

The Scarlet Raiders started strong jumping out to a 9-0 lead after two innings, but the visiting Bearcats battled back with four runs in the fifth inning.

Victoria Kisling smacked an RBI single to plate Darine Mata for the first run, while Gabrielle Huezo and Mircelis Paredes each followed by scoring on an error. Kisling would also later come around to score on another fielding error by the Scarlet Raiders for a 9-4 score.

The Bearcats kept things interesting in their final at-bat as Huezo hit an RBI double to score Daniela Lopez, but they would not get any closer in the 9-5 loss.

In the second game, the Bearcats started by scoring the first two runs in the first inning. Danielle Petrunti hit an RBI single to score Huezo and Kaitlyn Rivera had an RBI ground out to score Kisling to jump ahead 2-0.

The hosts broke open the contest in their first at-bat for the high-scoring win.
