Softball Splits DH With Valley Forge

The softball team split a doubleheader with the Patriots of the University of Valley Forge today in Phoenixville, PA, winning the first game 9-1 and dropping the second 10-3.

The Bearcats didn't waste any time in the first game, scoring four runs in the opening inning. Kaitlyn Rivera knocked in two RBIs to put the Bearcats on the board. Daniela Lopez then drove in Danielle Petrunti with an RBI groundout. Jooyoung Park followed with an RBI single to bring home Rivera.

Rivera was at it again in the second inning. The freshman singled to drive in Victoria Kisling with Gabrielle Huezo also scoring on the play.

The Bearcats extended their lead in the fourth when Park doubled to drive in Rivera and Kisling. Park had three hits and drove in three runs in the game, along with drawing a walk.

The Bearcats tacked on an insurance run in the sixth when Lopez singled to drive in Petrunti.

Kisling pitched the complete game for the Bearcats, striking out 11 batters in the win.

Valley Forge got the better of Baruch in the second game.

Kisling gave the Bearcats the lead in the first inning when she drove in Huezo, who had led the inning off with a single.

The Bearcats took a 3-1 lead in the third when Rivera doubled to send home Petrunti and Kisling. But the Patriots then scored nine unanswered runs to take game two from the Bearcats.

The softball team returns to action Monday, April 29, at 6:00 p.m. in a doubleheader against Yeshiva University of the Skyline Conference.
