Anita Sengara has been named the Baruch Athletics Female Athlete of the Year for 2019-20.
The major award caps off an outstanding two-years as a Bearcat.
Prior to the 2019 women's volleyball season, she was named team captain and proceeded to lead the Bearcats to 19 wins, which included the team's first-ever postseason victory after defeating Rutgers-Newark in the first round of the ECAC Division III Championship Tournament.
During the 2019 regular season, the Vancouver native earned a number of accolades such as CUNYAC Player of the Year and three-time CUNYAC Player of the Week honors.
Back in September 2019, she also earned the regional monthly honor of ECAC Metro Region Offensive Player of the Month.
Sengara finishes her entire intercollegiate playing career with over 1,000 kills, which included a team record of 35 kills in a September 2018 match against Colby Sawyer. In 2018, she was also voted as CUNYAC First Team All-Star.
Off the court, Sengara is more successful in the classroom being named a 2019-20 CUNYAC Female Honorable Mention Scholar-Athlete of the Year with a 3.79 GPA as a Communications major. She was also on the 2019 Fall Semester Athletic Director's Academic Honor Roll.
"I am honored to have been chosen as Baruch Athletics Female Athlete of the year," said Sengara. "As a team, we worked hard everyday and supported each other on-and-off the court. This season was one to remember and many milestones were reached. Having the Bearcat family by my side throughout the season was a major part of my success and I am so grateful for everyone who believed and supported me on this journey. Go Bearcats!"
