Men's Basketball Defeats SUNY Maritime 80-71

The men's basketball team shot 62 percent in the first half and held off a second half rally by the Privateers of SUNY Maritime to record an 80-71 victory on Sunday afternoon in the Bronx.    

The visiting Bearcats quickly built a comfortable 27-11 lead within the first 10 minutes en route to a 46-29 halftime advantage.

The host Privateers stormed back scoring 26 of the next 38 points to get as close as 56-55 with 7:26 left.

The Bearcats quickly responded by scoring the next nine points - behind contributions from four different players - to go back up 64-55 with 5:01 remaining. That run was enough to help finish off the nine-point road win.

Gerard Nicholson scored his intercollegiate career-high with 22 points, which included a perfect 9-for-9 from the free throw line.

Mohamed Gueye posted 16 points and grabbed seven rebounds, while Emil Purisic finished with 10 points.

The Bearcats' bench was pivotal scoring 51 of the 80 total team points in the victory.

Ryan Donovan had a big game for the Privateers with 31 points and four steals.
