Bearcats Sweep Old Westbury, Score 26 Total Runs

The softball team is off to a terrific start with a 6-0 record after sweeping the Panthers of SUNY Old Westbury in a non-conference doubleheader played at Farmingdale State College on Friday night in Long Island.

The Bearcats bats came alive again today as they scored 26 totals runs, including seven runs in the seventh inning of the first game and nine in the seventh inning of the second.

Game 1 Highlights

* The Bearcats started strong by scoring five runs in the first inning and ended with seven in the seventh inning. They finished with 14 runs on 11 hits.

* Carly Quint (2-0) earned the win pitching four innings, allowing three hits, and striking out seven with one earned run.   

* Jessica Davis scored three runs to go along with one stolen base and one RBI.

* Quint, Caroline Gallagher, and Emilia Zakoscielny finished two hits each.  

* Megan Bell's RBI walk in the seventh stood as the winning run.

*Julia Cuttone had the only extra base hit of the first game with a double in the first inning.

Game 2 Highlights

* The Bearcats totaled 12 runs on 15 hits and did not commit any errors. They trailed 6-3 after six innings but scored nine runs in the top of the seventh.

* Davis and Caroline Gallagher had three hits each. Gallagher also had a game-high three RBI.

* Quint and Jordyn Schwartz each smacked a triple.

* Quint (3-0) earned the pitching win again with three strikeouts in three innings.

* Davis had the winning hit with a two-run double to score Danielle Petrunti and Quint to make it 10-6.
