Softball Sweeps Brooklyn, Win Game Two on Eighth Inning Walk Off

The softball team won both ends of a CUNYAC doubleheader on Friday afternoon sweeping Brooklyn College at Flowers Park in New Rochelle, New York.

The doubleheader was a tale of two stories.

The Bearcats won the opener 9-1 in five innings in a game that lasted just under one hour, but needed extra innings in the second game to win 10-9 in one of the most exciting contests so far in CUNYAC.

The two wins helps the Bearcats raise their record to 15-9 overall and 9-1 in the CUNYAC.

HIGHLIGHTS

Game 1

* Carly Quint (Win, 3 IP, 1 H, 0 ER, 4 K) and Julia Cuttone (2 IP, 1 H, 0 ER, 0 BB, 3 K) were solid on the mound combining for a two-hitter.

* Jordyn Schwartz led the Bearcats at the plate batting 2-for-2 with two RBI and two runs scored. She also added a stolen base.

* Amber Rivera smacked an inside the park homer to finish with three RBI.

* Emilia Zakoscielny scored twice and had a stolen base.

Game 2

 * The second game tested each team as they combined for 19 runs, 27 hits, and 12 errors.

* The Bearcats took a 5-1 lead after the first inning, but the visiting Bulldogs kept battling back with timely hitting to keep it close and eventually tying it 9-9 in the fifth inning.

* Quint won the game in the bottom of the eighth with a walk off double to score Bridget Campanelli with the winning run. Quint did hit an inside the park homer - her second of the game - but it goes into the book as a double as Campanelli scored first from second base for the winning 10-9 score. Campanelli was placed on second due to the international tie-breaker rule.

* Quint pitched the final 2.2 innings to earn her seventh win of the season with a line of no runs and six strikeouts. She finished batting 4-for-5, a homer, two doubles and three RBI.

* Megan Bell batted 3-for-5 with a triple. Jessica Davis smacked two doubles and scored twice.
