Women's Volleyball Splits Season-Opening Home Tri-Match

The women's volleyball team hosted a tri-match at home on Friday afternoon to start their fall schedule. 

The Bearcats lost a heart-breaker in five sets (20-25, 19-25, 25-22, 25-14, 11-15) to Bryn Mawr of Pennsylvania coming close to a thrilling comeback that fell short in the tie-breaker.

They bounced back in their second match against St. Joseph's with a strong 25-23, 25-21, 25-20 straight-set victory.

Isabella Doring and Dibjot Kaur led the attack against Bryn Mar with 13 kills each. Delaney Killeen notched nine kills and Karen Pozo Castro had 33 assists and 12 digs in the tough loss.

The Bearcats started the fifth-set tie-breaker scoring the first two points, but Bryn Mawr turned the momentum back in their favor going on a run to build a 12-5 advantage that propelled them to the win.

The Bearcats were in control against St. Joseph's narrowly winning the first set 25-23 and then broke a 21-21 tie in the second set by scoring the last four points en route to their first win on the first day of the Division III season.

Against St. Joseph's, Kaur was a force again with 13 kills, Castro had 28 assists, and Caroline Elfner recorded 10 digs in the home win.

St. Joseph's defeated Bryn Mar in four sets in the middle match of the afternoon.

The Bearcats will hit the road next Thursday, September 5, traveling to northern New Jersey to play at Centenary University with first serve scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
