MBB Overcomes 22-Point Second Half Deficit to Defeat Brooklyn College (67-62)

The men's basketball team recorded an epic comeback on Tuesday night to defeat the Bulldogs of Brooklyn College 67-62 to improve to 7-1 in the CUNYAC standings.

The Bearcats trailed by 22 points (50-28) with 15:46 left in the contest and appeared headed for a tough home loss until they staged the comeback.

They managed through the second half to cut the deficit little by little and then took control in the final six minutes out-scoring the visiting Bulldogs 20-2.

One of the big minutes in the rally was scoring 10 quick points to go from trailing 62-51 with 3:40 left to just 62-61 with 1:55 left. Rookie Peter Douvres scored five points and Jack Gordon had a three and Dylan Minnick hit a jumper for the quick buckets to erase the double-digit Brooklyn lead.

Douvres put the Bearcats up for good with a layup for 63-62 with 40 seconds left and Trevon Coppin and Minnick each hit a pair of free throws in the final seconds to secure one of the more memorable comebacks in CUNYAC history.

Gerard Nicholson led all scorers with 15 points, Minnick and Douvres had 12 each, and Gordon finished with 10. Nicholson also added a career-high six steals. Brandon Goldberg grabbed 10 rebounds.

Brooklyn shot 54.2 percent in the second half but only hit one successful shot down the stretch as they collapsed against the Bearcats' defense.

Brendan Armour led the Bulldogs with 18 points (9-of-10 fg).
