The women's tennis team wrapped up the fall portion of its regular season schedule with a 7-0 shutout victory over the Pioneers of William Paterson University on Saturday afternoon in Wayne, New Jersey.
The visiting Bearcats started strong by sweeping doubles play. Aishika Yadav and Lucia Herranz Sanchez earned a win at first doubles, (6-0) while Jacqueline Moreno and Maria Calvo Prado were victorious at second doubles (6-0). The Pioneers were forced to forfeit the third doubles match due to a lack of available players, giving Baruch the early team point.
The Bearcats carried their momentum into singles play, winning the first five matches before earning the final point by forfeit. Yadav led the way with a 6-0, 6-1 victory at first singles — her 40th career singles win — tying her for second place on Baruch's all-time singles victories list.
Sanchez (#2, 6-0, 6-0), Prado (#3, 6-0, 6-0), Doyeong Lee (#4, 6-0, 6-1), and Maria Rojas (#5, 6-0, 6-0) all posted straight-set wins.
With the victory, the Bearcats conclude the regular season on a high note and will return to action on Tuesday for the CUNYAC Semifinals against Brooklyn College. The match is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. at the U.S. National Tennis Center in Queens.
