Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

MBB Dominate in 2nd Half to Defeat John Jay, Next Up Thursday Battle of Lex vs Hunter

The men's basketball team stayed in a first-place CUNYAC tie tonight after defeating John Jay College 84-62 in the ARC Arena.

The game was tightly contested in the first half with the Bearcats leading 29-26 with under two minutes left but they finished strong to lead at halftime 35-28.

That momentum carried over into the second half as they quickly jumped to a 48-32 lead in the first six minutes.

The visiting Bloodhound battled back to get as close as 52-43, but the Bearcats then went on a game-busting 17-2 run, gaining a 69-45 lead that put the game out of reach.

The victory was the seventh straight against the Bloodhounds.

The defense limited the Bloodhounds to 22 field goals and only 5-of-30 from three.

Gerard Nicholson led the scoring this evening with another solid effort of 28 points (9-for-18 fg, 5-11 3fg), while Brandon Goldberg finished with 23 points. Goldberg, who was also named earlier today to the Met Basketball Writers Honorable Mention Player of the Week list, also added 15 rebounds for his tenth double-double of the season.

Rookie Nicholas Lam came off the bench to score nine points and had a career-high seven assists and fellow rookie Peter Douvres scored eight points and seven rebounds.

Dylan Minnick grabbed 11 rebounds and dished out five assists.

Keyshawn Miller was tops for the visitors with 24 points.

The Bearcats will return to action on Thursday when they will play rival Hunter College in the annual Battle of Lexington. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
