NCAA: Bearcats Defeat Buffalo State to Advance to Second Round, Play NYU Next

POST-MATCH PRESS CONFERENCE

The men's volleyball team overcame a slow start to record an impressive four-set victory against Buffalo State in the first round of the 2025 NCAA Division III Championship Tournament on Thursday evening at NYU. 

The visiting Bearcats had three players with double-figure kills and recorded a .324 team hitting percentage, which included .435 in the second set and .556 in the third, for the victory to advance. 

Noah Pak (.462) had a monster match with 15 kills to go along with 14 digs and four aces. 

Argjend Osmanaj recorded 12 kills and Peter Gavroff had 10 kills, including match point, as the men's volleyball team recorded its third all-time NCAA volleyball win and first since 2015. 

Ryan Oommen, as he has done so many times during his playing career, came up big with 42 assists and seven digs in captaining the attack all evening.

Buffalo State took the first set, jumping ahead early and holding on to win 25-19. The Bearcats came out hitting and blocking to win 25-22, 25-18, 26-24 in the first-ever meeting between these two teams.    

The Bearcats advance to the second round on Friday at 4:00 p.m. to play top-seed New York University on their home court.
