The Baruch College Bearcats men's soccer team came up just short in a high-octane contest on Wednesday afternoon, falling 4-3 to the Farmingdale State Rams in a back-and-forth showdown on Long Island.
The Rams struck early, taking a 2-0 lead within the first 27 minutes on goals from Darlin Alcantara Jimenez (9:22) and Lucca Noboa (26:45), putting the home side in control. But the Bearcats refused to back down, showing resilience and grit as they clawed their way back into the match.
Elias Santa Cruz gave Baruch momentum heading into halftime with a crucial goal at the 42:34 mark. The Bearcats carried that energy into the second half, stunning the Rams with two quick goals from Andreas Kotronis (70:51) and Anthony Prado (77:25) to take a 3-2 lead with just over 12 minutes remaining.
However, the Rams responded with late-game goals. Josue Granados leveled the score at 85:38, and just moments later, Noboa netted his second of the match (87:09) to seal the comeback win for Farmingdale State on their home pitch.
Despite the loss, the Bearcats out-shot the Rams 16-15 and held their own against one of the Skyline Conference's top programs. Samuel Jacobs led Baruch with four shots, while Prado added three in a strong offensive showing.
The Bearcats will look to bounce back on Friday as they hit the road for a 6:00 p.m. matchup against SUNY Purchase.
