The men's soccer team earned a hard-fought 1-0 victory over the SUNY Purchase Panthers in a non-conference match up on Friday night.
The lone goal of the match came early, at the 16:30 mark, when Ailey Dawson found the back of the net for his first goal in a Bearcat uniform. The scoring play was set up during a corner kick where Andreas Kotronis delivered a sharp assist—his second of the season—to Dawson for the decisive strike.
Despite being outnumbered in corner kick opportunities (12-1), the Bearcats' defense held firm throughout the match. Goalkeeper Michael Lipskiy recorded two saves to secure the clean sheet (shutout), while the Panthers' keeper was not credited with a save in a game where both teams registered nine shots apiece.
Koutronis led the Bearcats with three shots and played a pivotal role in the midfield, helping to control possession and pace in the team's first win of the season. The defensive unit stood tall against persistent pressure, especially during a flurry of Panther corners in the second half.
The team will enjoy a brief break in their schedule and will return to action on Wednesday, September 24, when they travel to Wayne, New Jersey to face William Paterson University.
