The men's soccer team closed out its weekend at the Potsdam College Cup with another hard-fought result, finishing in a 1-1 draw against the host SUNY Potsdam Bears on Saturday afternoon.
The Bearcats struck first when Sardor Abidov broke through the defense and found the back of the net at 19:01 to give the team the early 1-0 advantage. The lead held into halftime before the Bears equalized in the 57th minute on a goal by JJ Williams.
The Bearcats created several chances throughout the match, outshooting SUNY Potsdam by a 13-12 margin. Abidov paced the Bearcats with a team-leading three shots, while rookie goalkeeper Dzmitry Piatrashka continued his strong start to the season with five key saves.
The draw marked the second of the weekend for the Bearcats, who also earned a 0-0 result on Friday against Nazareth University.
The Bearcats will now turn its attention to Wednesday, September 10, when they travel to Long Island to face Farmingdale State at 5:00 p.m.
