The men's basketball team dropped a 71–61 decision to the visiting CCNY Beavers in a CUNYAC matchup on Wednesday night at the ARC Arena.
CCNY opened the game with immediate energy, storming out to a 13–4 lead in the first four minutes and forcing the Bearcats into early catch-up mode. Baruch responded with timely offense to pull within 15–14 just minutes later on a basket by Nicholas Lam.
However, CCNY closed the half by scoring the final nine points to take a 39–27 halftime advantage via 16-for-32 shooting in the first half.
Baruch came out of the break with renewed intensity. They chipped away at the deficit and got as close as 45–41 after a jumper by Peter Douvres with 11:38 remaining. But each time Baruch threatened, the Beavers answered with timely baskets, pushing the lead back to double digits to hold on to the road victory.
Jack Gordon led the Bearcats with 20 points, while Douvres delivered another strong performance with 19 points.
Justin Morety led the visitors with 20 points and seven rebounds.
The Bearcats will continue their CUNYAC schedule with a 7:00 p.m. contest on Friday night at York College.
