The Baruch College Bearcats traveled on Tuesday for a non-conference matchup against the Gothic Knights of New Jersey City University at Centenary Baseball Field in Hackettstown, New Jersey.
In a tightly contested game, the Bearcats jumped out early, scoring three runs in the first inning. Kenneth Pastrana delivered an RBI triple to center field to score Peter Marino, and Sam Steinman followed with an RBI single to right, bringing Pastrana home. Frank Scerra capped the inning with an RBI single up the middle to score Steinman and give the Bearcats a 3–0 lead.
NJCU got on the board in the second inning when Nick Vaughn led off with a home run. The Gothic Knights then took the lead in the fourth, scoring three runs—two on RBI singles and one on a wild pitch—to go ahead 4–3.
The Bearcats responded in the fifth inning, as Steinman tied the game at 4–4 with an RBI single that scored Marino.
The game remained deadlocked until the eighth inning, when Giuseppe Buffolino scored on an RBI triple by Matthew Rappa to give the Bearcats a 5–4 advantage. However, NJCU answered with two runs in the bottom half of the inning to reclaim the lead, 6–5.
Baruch battled back once more in the ninth inning, tying the game at 6–6 on an RBI single by Joseph Bello that brought home Marino—his third run of the game.
The Gothic Knights ultimately secured a 7–6 victory on a walk-off RBI double by Ray Gelok.
