MVB Sweeps Lehman in Quarterfinal, Next Play at Hunter in Thursday Semifinal

The men's volleyball team squared off against the Lightning from Lehman College in a CUNYAC quarterfinal match at the ARC Arena on Tuesday night. The Bearcats swept the visiting Lightning in three sets (25-12, 25-15, 25-21).

Argjend Osmanaj launched three consecutive kills to open a quick 10-3 advantage in the opening set. The lead blossomed to double-digits (18-8) and they ended the set holding Lehman to 12 points in a 25-12 victory.

The two teams were tied 3-3 in the second set before Alen Nurbayev spiked a kill that prompted an 8-1 Bearcat run to take a 11-4 lead. The Lightning trimmed the lead to six (21-15), but the home squad won the set by double-digits once again (25-15).

The Bearcats had a comfortable 2-0 lead going into the third set, but the Lightning did not go away quietly. The squad led 4-0 early on and they later increased the margin to as much as eight (22-14). Lehman later went on a 7-2 run to cut the lead to just three (24-21). However, Omar Noaman recorded a kill that was assisted by Valentin Rodriguez to put the seal on the set (25-21) and the match (3-0).

Nathaniel Matthie recorded nine assists for the Lehman Lightning.
