The men’s basketball team broke open a 21-all tie with a 16-2 run in the final six minutes of the first half to go on to defeat Lehman College, 75-64, in a CUNYAC contest on Thursday night in the ARC Arena.
The game-busting run enabled the Bearcats to keep a double-digit advantage the rest of the way to pick up their second straight victory.
The team received scoring from 10 different players and finished shooting 51.8 percent (29-56) to improve to 2-0 in the conference standings.
For the fourth straight game, George Kunkel (Glendale, NY/Archbishop Molloy) notched a double-double with 15 points and 13 rebounds.
Laurence Smith (Bronx, NY/Frederick Douglass) had another busy game on both ends of the court with 14 points and six rebounds, including a fast-break dunk that brought the student body section to its feet on a long pass from Adrian Serrano (Brooklyn, NY/Christ the King).
Freshman point guard Lionel Hilaire (Far Rockaway, NY/Archbishop Molloy) scored 13 points and dished out six assists, while senior center Phil Schatz (Middle Village, NY/Archbishop Molloy) recorded 12 points and eight rebounds.
Lehman (2-4, 1-1 CUNYAC) did a solid job with the ball with only 10 forced turnovers, but struggled offensively by shooting only 33 percent (23-69).
Jameson Garcia (Bronx, NY/Norman Thomas) came off the bench to lead the visitors with 20 points and seven rebounds.
Baruch will next travel to Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania on Saturday to take on King’s College from the Freedom Conference. Tip off is scheduled for 3:00 pm.
