Women's Tennis Defeats Brooklyn (7-2); Mariam Mkrtchyan Named CUNYAC Player of the Week

The women's tennis team defeated the Brooklyn College Bridges, 7-2, in a conference match up played on Tuesday afternoon on the Roosevelt Courts of Brooklyn College.

The visiting Bearcats (8-2) won five of six singles and two of three doubles to move into a second place tie in the conference standings with a 4-1 record.

Mariam Mkrtchyan, who was named the CUNYAC Tennis Player of the Week, led the Bearcats with a victory in #2 singles (6-4, 6-1), and teamed up with Alexandra Vamanu to record a victory in #2 doubles (8-3).

Mariya Korobkova was victorious in #5 singles (6-1, 6-2), and teamed up with Shalanda Graham in #3 doubles (8-2) to help the Bearcats walk away with the conference victory.

The Bearcats will return to action tomorrow, Wednesday, October 8, with the team needing to play two singles against CCNY to finish an incomplete match from October 1.


The two singles encounters will be played at 4:00 pm at the U.S. National Tennis Center in Queens.
