Men's Volleyball Stays on Winning Track, Sweep the Gothic Knights of New Jersey City University

The men’s volleyball team defeated New Jersey City University by the scores of 30-16, 30-28, 30-28 in a non-conference match on Tuesday night in Jersey City, New Jersey.

Sophomore Eryk Kowalski led the Bearcats (7-2) this evening with 12 kills (.625
hitting pct.), while sophomore Pablo Oliveira (five digs) and freshman Matt McKee (.786 hitting pct., no errors) each notched 11 kills.

Senior Danial Levent (two blocks) and freshman Gabriel Rivera contributed seven kills each.

Junior setter Radu Wyrwas controlled the offense with 42 assists. For Wyrwas, he has notched 40 or more assists in four matches already this season.

Senior libero Levi Rachmanov came up big defensively during rising moments of NJCU’s attack by collecting eight digs.  

The Bearcats easily won the opening set, but had to work hard to pull out consecutive two point victories to end a match that lasted one hour and 17 minutes.

Marley Pena-Guzman led New Jersey City (1-1) with seven kills and two aces.

The Baruch men’s volleyball team remained at #12 in the latest national poll released by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA).

The team also moved up two spots from 10 to eight in the regional North East Collegiate Volleyball Association (NECVA) poll.

The next set of polls are expected to be released on February 3.

The Bearcats will continue their arduous early season schedule by traveling on Thursday to Philadelphia for a 7:30 pm match against Philadelphia Biblical University, which is currently tied at #15 in the national AVCA poll.
