Women's Basketball Run Past CCNY (81-46)

Megan Bouwens and Maria Turner each scored 14 points to lead the women’s basketball team to an 81-46 CUNYAC home win over CCNY on Thursday night in the ARC Arena.

The Bearcats (4-2, 1-0 CUNYAC) jumped out to a 36-14 halftime advantage by forcing the Beavers into 12 turnovers and winning the battle of the boards with a 34-19 rebounding margin

During the second half, the Bearcats shot 56 percent (18-32) on offense, while the defense forced CCNY (1-5, 0-2 CUNYAC) into 16 more turnovers to record the 81-46 victory.

Folashade Akinde (12pts, 12rbs, 6stls) and Turner (14pts, 11rbs) each recorded a double-double, while Bouwens narrowly missed with 14 points and nine rebounds.

Karyn Purcell scored 11 points (4-7 fg) and Monique Salmon finished with 10 points (5-8 fg), seven assists and three steals in 18 minutes of action.

The Bearcats also received contributions in their conference-opening win from
Jessica Duleba (6pts, 5rbs), Camille Voitot (5pts, 2stls), and a career-high nine rebounds from Shamika Boyce.

CCNY finished the game shooting 32 percent (18-56). They were led in the scoring column by Donkia Rexhepi with 13 points, three assists and two steals. Taryn Van Esselstyn also scored in double-digits with 11 points, five rebounds and four steals.

The women’s basketball team will return to action on Saturday, December 4, with a non-conference road game at the Violets of NYU. Tip off at the Coles Sports Center in Greenwich Village (#6 subway to Bleecker Street) is scheduled for 4:00 pm.
