#4 Men's Volleyball Defeats York Twice (3-1, 3-1) in CUNYAC Action Thursday Night

The #4-ranked men’s volleyball team defeated York College twice by the scores of three sets to one on Thursday night in Jamaica, New York.

In the opening match at 5:30 pm, the Bearcats (16-2, 6-0 CUNYAC) defeated York (7-11, 3-5 CUNYAC) by the scores of 30-18, 26-30, 30-10, 30-16.

Sequiel Sanchez led the attack with 14 kills (.435) and three service aces, while Santos Rivera recorded nine kills (.294) and Pablo Oliveira had seven kills.

Ivan Andujar (21 assists, six digs) and Radu Wyrwas (13 assists, four kills) also contributed to the conference victory.

The visiting Bearcats, who are also currently ranked #1 regionally in the North East Collegiate Volleyball Association (NECVA) Week Two Conference Poll, won the 7:30 pm match in four again with the scores of 30-13, 28-30, 30-16, 30-14. 

Vincent Cruz led the way with 10 kills (.467), while Sanchez had nine kills for an impressive .583 hitting percentage.

Oliveira (seven kills) and Jan Wojdat (six service aces) all had a solid effort in the second win of the evening. Andujar and Wyrwas both combined for 35 assists to defeat the Cardinals.

The men’s volleyball team will continue their CUNYAC schedule on Saturday at the next conference multi-match to be hosted by Hunter College.

The Bearcats are scheduled to play against rival Hunter College (9:00 am) and the City College of New York (11:00 am).
